Pacers center Myles Turner recently talked about his rookie season “retirement tour” against Kobe in an interview with the Pinson podcast.
Turner recalled, “I remember my rookie season against Kobe, which also happened to be his ‘retirement tour.’ We were leading the entire game, and every time Kobe had the ball, the whole place was cheering. “It was at that point that Paul George stepped up and drained a super high 3-pointer, only to be booed by the entire stadium. Those were our own fucking fans! That game is still important to us because we were in the middle of a playoff push. We ended up winning, but the whole crowd was booing us, they wanted the Lakers to win so bad,” Turner said. Turner said.
Turner’s words were filled with helplessness. He said the scene shocked him and made him realize the status of Kobe in the hearts of Lakers fans.
“Kobe is a legend of the Lakers, and he made a huge contribution to the Lakers. So when he retires, it’s natural for Lakers fans to be very supportive of him,” Turner said.
“But I still feel that as players we deserve the support of our fans. That game was big for us at the time, and we ended up winning, but we got booed by the fans. It was frustrating for me.” Turner said.
